  • So after reading some of my articles maybe the reader is beginning to get a better idea about corruption in Mexico, and  more specifically in Oaxaca. There are stories upon stories of the kinds of things I have mentioned in a few brief  articles. Children are taught from a young age that this is the way it is, and they grow up perpetuating something they don't realize they could actually play a role in stopping so that all could live a more fair equitable life together on this one and only planet we have to share. So how do you do it? Where do you start? A person could spend their whole life fighting it and still never put and end to it. Groups of people have tried, not just individuals. Take, for example, the women in Ciudad Juarez, most subdued silenced or killed for trying to speak out if they ever did. People here in Oaxaca have tried, only to be disappeared. To this day, since 2006, over 200 people remain "missing". And new people join their ranks every day as they try to rise  up and get disappeared or gunned down in broad daylight. For standing up for righteousness, for justice. I heard that recently in Puebla, the citizens have just gained the right to arm themselves in self defense as they protest against their police. Maybe they should have that right in Oaxaca too. After a protest there is no worse feeling than that of being followed by undercover police who want  to follow you to your house to kidnap you or kill you because you spoke the truth. Only Mexico can figure out how to solve its corruption problems, and I don't mean its government, only the people of Mexico can do this. The only way to effectuate real true change is to all band together and not let anybody be divided or conquered. LRB Alevizos
